Come hear our speakers, Stephanie Tillman CNM, MSN and Joanna Vergoth LCSW,NCPsyA educate us about a very important topic.
FGM/C (female genital mutilation/ cutting) is a practice involving full or partial removal of a girl’s external genitals. It serves no medical purpose and has many harmful consequences. Up to 140 million women in the world today are living with the effects of FGM/C. According to the CDC, some 200,000 girls in the United States are at risk of being cut. As midwives are first line care for many women from menarche through menopause, our work should encompass evidence based, knowledgeable, and compassionate care.
